Indian summer

Don’t you love it, I haven’t worn a coat for weeks now. I put a cardigan on this morning as it was fresh going in the car but when I arrived at school I left it in the car! Our students sit outside and enjoy having their break and lunch outside. Also everybody seem to be in such a better mood! The Ashbourne local paper says that early figures show this is set to be the driest September across the UK since records began in 1910, with exceptionally low rainfall for many parts of the country.Early figures show this is set to be the driest September across the UK since records began in 1910, with exceptionally low rainfall for many parts of the country.
One of my jobs now is to ‘walk’ our newly acquired rabbit, Christopher. It need 100% attention as the hedge we share with our neighbours and friends, Phil and Sue, is not secure. At times, Christopher keeps moving at the edge of this hedge, ready to dart through. I have to lead him to Steven’s vegetable patch which is rather safe! It was dusk when I took the photo so it’s not very clear. He likes to nibble the spinach shoots and the carrots leaves.

Sunday night, we went to celebrate Harvest at the Inn, a worship event at our local pub The Bank House in Hixon,  They do a mean latte there (my favorite drink at the moment) It was well attended with people coming not just Hixon but from the neighbouring villages and we all enjoyed meeting up, singing and praising the Lord, giving Him thanks for his love and generosity. Here is one of my favorite songs

Jesus, Jesus, Holy and anointed One, Jesus

Jesus, Jesus, Risen and exalted One, Jesus

Jesus, Jesus, Holy and anointed One, Jesus

Your name is like honey on my lips
Your Spirit like water to my soul
Your word is a lamp unto my feet
Jesus I love You, I love You

Jesus, Jesus, Risen and exalted One, Jesus

Your name is like honey on my lips
Your Spirit like water to my soul
Your word is a lamp unto my feet
Jesus I love You, I love You

Jesus, I love You, Jesus, I love You

Have a blessed evening ❤

Waiting for my car to be mot

I am not even sure it will pass as I have a chip on the windscreen and it seems to grow. After a tour round an estate agent and a few charity shops I am having a caramel latte at Costa. I did resist the thought of having a piece of cherry cake! This morning I went to St Peter school harvest service in our village. The church was packed and we had a fantastic  time. No matter how many times i hear the parable of the sower it triggers a lot of strong visual connotations and thoughts. Amazingly Steven used the children’s drawings and costumes we had two birds to illustrate the different soils.
Back to mundane I need to walk back to the garage. Have a blessed Friday!

All Scripture is God-breathed

blog-2-tim-3-16-17A few months ago as I was on a Christian website reading items in a forum, one comment caught my eye. Somebody was saying that some of the Bible did not matter so much, and he gave examples, i.e. picking the stuff that he did not like!

In terms of dating I subscribe to the conviction that the New Testament was written before AD 70 – the fall of Jerusalem. There may be indicators that it was about to happen but no evidence that it had. If it had, the writers would have linked that to Jesus predictions concerning it which they don’t. It is my conviction that scripture is not only ‘God-breathed but also God-preserved. Why would the Lord reveal all he wants to reveal and then allows man to mess it up by forgetting it or changing it? I trust the integrity of the Bible and its writers as a true and honest record of what God wants us to hear from him, about him, his ways and his purposes.

There are things we want to know that if God explained them to us we would

be unable to comprehend. When all is said and done, He is God, infinite, immortal and all knowing and we aren’t.

In 2 Timothy 3-16, Paul says: All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness, so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work’ .

This could not be more explicit! I would like to give an example of ‘ Scripture useful for training in righteousness’: Paul puts it very clearly in 1 Corinthians 10:1-12.

Peter tells us: ‘Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation. For prophecy never had its origin in the will of man, but men spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit’. 2 Peter 1:20-21

We know about Jesus-Christ and his apostles from the Bible but they also testified to the authority of the Bible. Jesus refers to the Bible as his Heavenly father’s written instructions which he obeys. Matthew 4:4 Jesus answered: “ It is written: ’Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God.’”

Heb 10:5-10 Therefore, when Christ came into the world, he said: “Sacrifice and offering you did not desire, but a body you prepared for me;6 with burnt offerings and sin offerings you were not pleased. 7 Then I said, ‘Here I am — it is written about me in the scroll — I have come to do your will, O God.‘”

God inscribed the 10 Commandments on stone tablets and prompted Moses to write the laws and history of the first five books of the Bible, Exodus 32-15-16.I also think that reading the bible is one way to strengthen our faith. It also helps us to have a relationship with our Heavenly Father and understand the beautiful plan He holds for us in our life.

Teaching and tolerance.

teachingThe other day I was talking to a colleague who mentioned that at times she had enough and wanted to get get out of teaching and find another career. I told her that in my view teaching is highly addictive. She was surprised.
Here are the reasons: the buzz of new beginnings; September is a month full of hope for the children/teenagers waiting to discover their mates and their teachers, excitement for those friends who haven’t managed to see each other during the holidays, new resolutions for teachers and leaders who desperately want to excel in the classroom and lead their precious children on the way to mature young adults.
Marking and planning are not the most pleasurable tasks to do and they take lots of a teacher’s free time. This is why they actually are addictive. Our part of the brain is always thinking along the line..what about trying this activity, would they (the cherubins) like it? The use of technology has made teaching even more fun and helped motivate students. In languages, new fancy websites have been designed to help children memorise vocabulary, practice their pronunciation, even design their own activities on line. They are in charge of their learning if they want to. That is, if they can resist the appeal of other sirens, such as TV shows, games, facebook, instagram, movies.

A student was explaining to me that his parents did not come home until  6 and sometimes 7 p.m. and trusted him with his homework but he admitted:  ‘it’s a long day, I want to relax so in the end I watch TV ‘..he is only 14 y.o.  Parents must decide what’s best for their family, time spent together with their children and maybe drop the hours or even go part-time. Listening to our children is an important responsibility, and a hard one too as we need to decrypt their behaviour; it takes time to understand a child.  These days time evaporates.

My other concern is that in too many state schools now in the UK, there is no act of Christian worship in assemblies, RE is often taught by non-qualified staff who are self-professed atheists. It seems that tolerance is only one way. Did you know that in 1780 a Jesus-follower in Great Britain named Robert Raikes could not stand the cycle of poverty and ignorance that was destroying little children, a whole generation. He said, “The world marches forward on the feet of little children. So he took children who had to work six days a week in squalor. Sunday was their free day. He said, “I’m going to start a school for free to teach them to read and write and learn about God.” He did, and he called it “Sunday school.”  May the Lord bless our children and teachers in our schools all over the country!

When life brings you to your knees

trusting God, valleyWhen I thought about taking a month off to escape the busyness of the world and seek Christ more I envisioned myself having sweet times of fellowship with Jesus one-on-one with no distractions.

I thought I would dig deep into His Word to draw nearer to Him and get more insight, more direction, and more encouragement for my life.

I thought I would get together with close friends to talk to about God and grow together in Him.

And I did all of those things, but it was no way near to the way I originally imagined it to be.

Yes, I spent hours upon hours of prayer but it was not because I conveniently set time aside to be alone with God.

It’s because I found myself in such a dark place that the only way I knew I would get through was by crying out to Him daily…
