Christmas in England!

After thinking about it for weeks, we decided to visit the girls and spend Christmas in England. It was great to meet up first with Im and Cam in London and then Vez and her hubbie Mike in Bolton. No need to tell you that those 8 days flew!
We drove to Dieppe through rain and it was hard because the road seemed to be covered by a sheet of ice. Four hours later we arrived in Newhaven. Then we arrived in Haringey an hour and a half later! It was busy but not too busy if you see what I mean. We couldn’t find our hotel even though Steven put the post code in the Satnav. The manager of the hotel told us later that it was not the firt time people failed to locate his hotel because of it.

La suite au prochain numéro! lol

Just to let you know…

Hey there, friends, just to let you know that my blogging days are numbered…no this isn’t as serious as that!

So we moved in France in February as Steven’s dream was to retire in France and in August  I got this new teaching job in Angouleme, yes in Charente, an hour away by car from Civray, France!  I love the school, the staff and of course the kiddies…I am so blessed…

I am fairly busy with everything, preparing lessons, marking, and now as it’s the end of the term, writing reports for all my classes. It takes time and I have to create most resources because it’s the first time I’m teaching English…

I am not giving up blogging though!

So just a little organising…if you have any tips, let me know!

Have a blessed week-end!

Another Saturday

Cheers! Steven and I are having a drink in the Sun Inn and I thought I’d have half a cider, the least alcoholic and it happens to be a perry! Very nice!

We took some books to a charity shop ( it’s hard for me to get rid of books however it was a slow decision) and clothes and the Christmas tree. Then we used a voucher to buy two 5 litres interior paint in our local homebase which happens to be closing down. We were contemplating buying a steamer to take wall papers down in our French house but in the end we didn’t.
We haven’t been here together for a long time. When Imogen stayed with us last week we popped in on Tuesday after school!

I was very upset to read about the explosion in a hotel in Ouagadougou. Will you join me in  prayers. Our Father in heaven, we ask you to comfort the victims and their families, surround them with your love and draw them closer to you. We ask you in the name of our Saviour and redeemer Jesus-Christ. Amen
Hope you are having a great Saturday.

I am not sure I still qualify to keep on the Janathon challenge as I haven’t posted much about my daily exercises for a week. Our youngest daughter came back from London and spent a whole week with us so we were overjoyed! We’ve had a great time together. She’s back to uni now.

Janathon day 4

Dear friends after a great day at school, I was overjoyed to spend the evening with Imo. Steven did a roast diner with all the vegetables including the roasties, Imogen’s favourite and a special vegan gravy for her. Unfortunately she didn’t like my butternut squash loaf because …it was a medley of vegetables… and not a loaf. Not to worry, practice makes perfect!

Tonight I wasn’t unsure of going out for a walk/run under the rain, still I went out and really enjoyed it!

Have a great Tuesday 🙂

Back in England!

We’re back home after travelling for two days, one day from Civray in Poitou to Calais and today from Dover to Stafford. My hubby admitted he was pretty tired. Last night we had a simple but lovely diner in a restaurant in the middle of Calais and this morning, the crossing was fresh but lovely. Now we are back home and we spent some time unloading the caravane and putting stuff away, saying hello to our two rabbits. My friend who looked after them for the last two weeks came round and we had a drink. She told me that they behaved apart from one day when they scratched her. They are getting used to her!

Though it’s dark outside, Steven has barbecued a small ‘poulet fermier’ that we bought in Civray’s market.

Encouraging verses for all of us, I believe when things get difficult!

Isaiah 41:10: “Do not fear, for I am with you; do not be dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, I will help you, yes, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”

John 16:33: “I have told you these things so that in Me you may have peace. In the world you will have trouble but take heart, I have overcome the world.

Catching up!

Good evening my friends. This afternoon, we went to the tip after clearing up bits in the garage and then we had a drink in town. It’s been a lovely day again, Indian Summer as we call it.

We also popped in TK Max as the boss was looking for some pasta however he could not find any. Meanwhile, I found those cute ornaments, multicolored cockerels in glass!

Back at home, I spent more time personalising my  YouTube channel  and I designed my custom thumbnail. First I looked for some explanations and I had to search those most recent videos since YouTube changes fast! So here is one of my videos with its new thumbnail.

If you too have a YouTube channel, let me know and I will visit it.

Bouncing on a trampoline!

We left our bikes in France and I miss cycling. Walking is great if the weather is nice. What else could  I do? I suddenly remember that we have a rebounder at home. Doing some research on how many calories I could lose I discovered that there were more benefits! The NASA  found that 10 minutes bouncing on a trampoline is a more efficient cardiovascular workout than over 30 minutes of running. When the astronauts were tested while running on a treadmill, the G-force measured at the ankle was over twice what it was at the back and head. This means that the foot and leg absorb much of the force when running, which can explain the higher rates of foot, shin and knee problems from running (especially running incorrectly). On a trampoline, the G-force was almost identical at the ankle, back and head and at a lower level than that of the G-force at the ankle on a treadmill. This shows that rebounding can exercise the entire body without excess pressure to the feet and legs. Source

The report states that “for similar levels of heart rate and oxygen consumption, the magnitude of the biomechanical stimuli is greater with jumping on a trampoline than with running.”

Varied benefits!

In addition to weight loss, those looking to improve their fitness level can reap varied benefits from a trampoline. Jumping on a trampoline is an aerobic exercise that uses the whole body, just like jogging or cycling. However, unlike running or walking, it’s a low-impact exercise. As a result, your joints are far less susceptible to injury or fatigue. Other benefits include muscle toning, balance and coordination.Source

Here are the numbers!

During a 30-minute basic, low-intensity trampoline exercise session, a 135-pound (61.4 kg) person can expect to burn around 145 calories, a 150-pound (68.2 kg) person burns 160 calories and a 185-pound (84.1 kg) person burns 200 calories. These figures are on par with low-impact aerobic activities. The amount of calories you’ll burn in a 30-minute session depends on a few factors including your current weight and the intensity of the exercise.

How to maximise the amount of calories you’ll burn!

To burn more calories on a trampoline, increase the intensity by jumping higher, running in place or engaging your arms.

So now that i know how safe and useful trampolining is, i will have to get disciplined and do some everyday perhaps.. We shall see!

Do you have a trampoline at home and do you use it? What is your favorite sport?

And two plum trees to be precise the Mirabelles de Nancy that Steven picked for our party tomorrow. My cousines are visiting us all the way from Bordeaux.

So we are holidaying in Civray in a beautiful campsite at the edge of the town which explains the presence of this herd of cows.
The owners are welcoming and friendly.
This morning I continued reading the Gospel of Mark from ch6 to ch 9. Our Saviour is so understanding and patient with the disciples taking time to explain the paraboles to them (and us) i.e. Mark 7:18 ,Jesus full of compassion and love healed lots of  people, Mark 6:56. One of my favourite passages is when Peter says: you are the Messiah..Mark 8:29 When Jesus tells his disciples that He will suffer a lot, be rejected, put to death and resurrect 3 days later, Peter objected. The idea of the suffering servant was not something the disciples anticipated. Imagine their amazement at what was happening, Jesus forgiving sins,  telling off the Pharisees, calling them hypocrites, feeding the 4000 and then the 5000 with only a few pieces of bread and fish, delivering people from evil spirits..mind blowing stuff and the journey keeps on!
Have a lovely, peaceful and blessed weekend!
