Bouncing on a trampoline!

We left our bikes in France and I miss cycling. Walking is great if the weather is nice. What else could  I do? I suddenly remember that we have a rebounder at home. Doing some research on how many calories I could lose I discovered that there were more benefits! The NASA  found that 10 minutes bouncing on a trampoline is a more efficient cardiovascular workout than over 30 minutes of running. When the astronauts were tested while running on a treadmill, the G-force measured at the ankle was over twice what it was at the back and head. This means that the foot and leg absorb much of the force when running, which can explain the higher rates of foot, shin and knee problems from running (especially running incorrectly). On a trampoline, the G-force was almost identical at the ankle, back and head and at a lower level than that of the G-force at the ankle on a treadmill. This shows that rebounding can exercise the entire body without excess pressure to the feet and legs. Source

The report states that “for similar levels of heart rate and oxygen consumption, the magnitude of the biomechanical stimuli is greater with jumping on a trampoline than with running.”

Varied benefits!

In addition to weight loss, those looking to improve their fitness level can reap varied benefits from a trampoline. Jumping on a trampoline is an aerobic exercise that uses the whole body, just like jogging or cycling. However, unlike running or walking, it’s a low-impact exercise. As a result, your joints are far less susceptible to injury or fatigue. Other benefits include muscle toning, balance and coordination.Source

Here are the numbers!

During a 30-minute basic, low-intensity trampoline exercise session, a 135-pound (61.4 kg) person can expect to burn around 145 calories, a 150-pound (68.2 kg) person burns 160 calories and a 185-pound (84.1 kg) person burns 200 calories. These figures are on par with low-impact aerobic activities. The amount of calories you’ll burn in a 30-minute session depends on a few factors including your current weight and the intensity of the exercise.

How to maximise the amount of calories you’ll burn!

To burn more calories on a trampoline, increase the intensity by jumping higher, running in place or engaging your arms.

So now that i know how safe and useful trampolining is, i will have to get disciplined and do some everyday perhaps.. We shall see!

Do you have a trampoline at home and do you use it? What is your favorite sport?

When students have to juggle work and study!

Photo

I am talking about our daughter!

This photo was shot last Sunday at about 5 pm. (It seems a long time ago)

It was pretty sunny unlike today. I went to pick up our daughter at work however as I was early I treated myself to a hot coco and a big piece of bakewell cake! Then we went home and Imo got ready for her second job in the village pub even though she had a terrible sore throat.

Steven and I think that she is worn out. Too much work, not enough rest! She does not agree with us and does not want to cut down her hours.

On Monday (bank holiday) she did more research on her essay for her foundation course, comparing the styles of Coco Chanel and another French designer..(oups, I cannot remember his name).  As she was still not feeling very well, we went to see our GP who prescribed her some antibiotics. The point is that she accepted to text her boss at the pub to cancel her shift on Saturday night.  Victory!

I’d better go back to do some planning. Have a blessed evening!

The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed!

Psalm 9: 9-10. I find those verses beautiful because they are so encouraging. In times of trouble you can count on the Lord. He is the only one in fact you can rely on and trust entirely. Where are your friends in times of trouble? Are they there for you? Do they listen to you? Not being cynical, they may do for a few days, maybe weeks but after…the ones you are staying by your side, then you know that they are your true friends. It is a sobering fact: nobody likes going through trial and tribulations, right! However, confide in Jesus, who is Lord, he says to you : 28 ‘Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest. 29 Take my yoke upon you and learn from me, for I am gentle and humble in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. 30 For my yoke is easy and my burden is light. (Matthew 11:28-30)

A prayer tonight.

Thank you Lord for Jesus for He is a Light in our times of tribulation. Thank you Jesus for guiding us and helping us today, thank you for your love and all your blessings, thank you for providing us with food, drink, a roof over our heads, a job, a loving family, caring friends, a country,  where there is freedom. Thank you for nature and the beauty of this world. Thank you for dwelling in us through the Holy Spirit. Keep us safe, help us do your will not ours. We ask, in the name of Jesus, our Saviour and Redeemer. Amen.

Psalm 9

1 I will give thanks to you, Lord, with all my heart;

I will tell of all your wonderful deeds.

2 I will be glad and rejoice in you;

I will sing the praises of your name, O Most High.

3 My enemies turn back;

they stumble and perish before you.

4 For you have upheld my right and my cause,

sitting enthroned as the righteous judge.

5 You have rebuked the nations and destroyed the wicked;

you have blotted out their name for ever and ever.

6 Endless ruin has overtaken my enemies,

you have uprooted their cities;

even the memory of them has perished.

7 The Lord reigns for ever;

he has established his throne for judgment.

8 He rules the world in righteousness

and judges the peoples with equity.

9 The Lord is a refuge for the oppressed,
a stronghold in times of trouble.
10 Those who know your name trust in you,
for you, Lord, have never forsaken those who seek you.

11 Sing the praises of the Lord, enthroned in Zion;

proclaim among the nations what he has done.

12 For he who avenges blood remembers;

he does not ignore the cries of the afflicted.

13 Lord, see how my enemies persecute me!

Have mercy and lift me up from the gates of death,

14 that I may declare your praises

in the gates of Daughter Zion,

and there rejoice in your salvation.

15 The nations have fallen into the pit they have dug;

their feet are caught in the net they have hidden.

16 The Lord is known by his acts of justice;

the wicked are ensnared by the work of their hands.[c]

17 The wicked go down to the realm of the dead,

all the nations that forget God.

18 But God will never forget the needy;

the hope of the afflicted will never perish.

Coping under pressure!

Last week, my hubby sent me the link to this story! This is quite extraordinary. The wonderful Maria João Pires was shocked when she heard the orchestra begin playing another Mozart concerto – no 20 in D minor, K466, not what she had prepared for. She expected to play a Mozart piano concerto with the Amsterdam Concertgebouw conducted by Riccardo Chailly!

I’d love to hear the rest of the concert! Wouldn’t you?
Have an excellent evening.

Blustery to say the least

So we’ve been in Southport since Friday.  Saturday we went for a bike ride by the marsh off the River Ribble.The idea was to see a few birds but there weren’t any.
Monday afternoon we came back from town to discover that the awning took flight over the caravan roof and was damaged! Of course nothing to compare with what’s happened in the South of England…Fortunately the farmer who owns the campsite was very helpful and moved our caravane on a safer place with his tractor! Yesterday we visited the art gallery and we enjoyed very much an  exhibition called Love stories.

This morning the sun is out but it is still very windy! .Dear readers I  hope that  all is well with you.

Back in Southport

We thought that we’d avoid the traffic if we left at midday but the M6 was so busy and to top it up traffic went slow because people were rubber-necking at the sight of a lorry gone all over the bank Behind there was a grey bmw with its front badly damaged.
So we arrived in ‘our’ CL campsite at 2 30 the owner loves his grass so he offered to pull the caravan with his tractor..While  he was doing so I took a few photos. .Steven had a bit of an upset while he was cooking the gas was not there no pressure so he had to go out in the midst of a tempest and change the calor gas bottle.
We are off to bed soon. Good night my friends. God bless.  Nicky 🙂

In Mandelieu

We’ve been in Mandelieu near Cannes for nearly a week (since Thursday) and it’s been delightful. Though we booked our campsite fairly late it’s  a family campsite – says the owners – no swimming-pool but who cares, one entertainment a week -suits us- 15 minutes walking distance from the beach of Raguette by the Château de Mandelieu. The first two days we went biking up to Cannes, then by a river called Siagnes where we’ve indulged taking photos of hungry ducks and doves. Wifi has been scarce so far ..still today we have a strong signal in this Brasserie by the river. Must go..

Hen day on a narrow boat!

Last Saturday was one of the funniest day I ever spent! I was invited to a hen day celebration on a narrow boat! This was decided at our office probably over three months ago. Marine the bride to be only knew there would be a celebration but not much more! We were frantically preparing the nitty-gritty last week. E-mails were sent left, right, center.. Liz and Daria organised the 10 challenges that Marine would have to do. July’s main responsibility was to stern the boat. Katy booked everything and everybody brought some food for the canal picnic. Here are a few photos..DSCN7233
